Description
The department was established in the academic year 2003-2004, headed by Qarin professors on loan from Egyptian universities until 2011. Then the department continued to cooperate with the University of Tripoli based on cooperation until now. The department currently has four teaching assistants committed to working in the department, and there are no teaching staff in the department currently.

Mission
Providing distinguished education for fourth-year students in the field of forensic medicine and toxicology so that they can contribute to diagnosing and identifying the causes of death and treating cases of poisoning in order to save lives.
Goals
The department teaches forensic medicine and toxicology to fourth-year students the department teaches both the forensic medicine course and the toxicology course for fourth-year students at the College of Human Medicine, both of which are medical, clinical, and applied sciences.
The department seeks to:
• How to identify a person in civil or criminal cases, whether they are unknown or distorted.
• Identifying separate human organs in cases of death in accidents and disasters.
• Identifying broken tissues also in accidents and disasters.
• How to diagnose death (clinical death and brain stem death), identify the cause of death, and determine its time.
• How to write death certificates according to the cause of death.
• How to examine cases that may be suspected of criminality, such as wounds, head injuries, and sexual assaults, and how to undergo a medical examination and the legal procedures followed in such cases.
• How to write medical reports.
• Learn how to collect and preserve biological samples and forensic evidence.
• Identifying the different types of toxins (plant - mineral - animal - medicinal).
• How to diagnose and treat cases of poisoning (acute and chronic) in biology.
• Identify the manifestations of post-mortem poisoning.
• Learn about the ethics of practicing medicine, medical responsibility, and professional medical errors.
